This week marked a major step forward in the mechanical development of our Mars rover prototype. I focused on designing the wheel overhangs that will connect to the rocker bogie system. These overhangs are essential for attaching the wheels securely while allowing the necessary movement for rough terrain traversal.
I also began modeling the main rocker, known as the differential interface, which is the core structural component linking both sides of the rocker bogie. Getting this geometry right is critical since it supports the entire suspension system and ensures the rover can distribute weight effectively across its six wheels.
In addition to CAD modeling, I connected the front wheel mount to the rocker to test clearances and begin visualizing the full assembly in motion. These parts are now aligning beautifully in the model, and it's exciting to see the system come together.
Outside of the technical work, I also completed and submitted my application to join the volunteer team for NASA's Lunabotics competition. I'm really looking forward to hopefully participating and gaining firsthand experience with other space robotics projects.
