Meeting Summary:
The first meeting, attended by both Dr. Hall and Dr. Ejaz, focused on reviewing the syllabus and discussing the expectations for group collaboration. The team also scheduled future meetings and began preparations for the next meeting, set for Thursday, 1/16/2025.

Deliverables:

  1. Begin designing the website layout.

  2. Develop 2–3 project ideas, each including:

    • A detailed description

    • Engineering requirements

    • Detailed block diagrams or flowcharts

Meeting Summary:

Our group discussed both S.E.A.R. and DISCOM project proposals together with Dr. Hall. The conclusion was to research other applications for S.E.A.R. other than space. The Idea the group liked was cave exploration. For the next meeting we need to research how to propose the rover idea for cave exploration semi autonomously.

  2. Research how the S.E.A.R. concept would work in another environment

Meeting Summary:

Our group discussed with Dr. Hall the concerns with a rover for cave exploration based on the research done since the last meeting. It was agreed upon by the team to go forward with the Mars rover idea. Next steps were to flesh out the idea in its entirety and start to organize the project's specific requirements.

 

Deliverables:

  • Start moving the big picture project ideas to the main page of the website.

  • Come up with a finalized name that incorporates the project as a whole

  • Write a rough draft of the report based on the documentation collected

  • Connect with Dr. John Carbone for survey related to autonomous system requirements

Meeting Summary:

Our group did not have a meeting but still worked on compiling the progress made from the previous meeting based on last weeks deliverables. We outlined mobility, autonomy, and communication constraints to ensuring the rover remains practical for our timeline/budget concerns. For next meeting the plan is to present a revised project summary, clearly explaining these limitations and their purpose in a revised rough draft of our project report.

  • Researching different brush combinations to generate a negative charge.

  • Come up with a finalized name that incorporates the project as a whole

  • Write a rough draft of the report based on the documentation collected

Meeting Summary:

Our group met with Dr. Hall to discuss the project report progress, power budget, flow charts, engineering requirements, and engineering specifications. We also discussed the need to source a solar panel for the demo. Dr. Hall advised us to continue transferring our documentation into the report and to have a rough draft of Chapters 1-4 prepared.

In our meeting, we reviewed the draft of Chapter 1, ensuring it effectively introduces the project, its objectives, and overall scope. We also discussed Chapter 2, focusing on how each component of Astraeus will function within the system. This included an in-depth breakdown of the hardware and software integration, ensuring all elements align with the project goals. Dr hall gave us precise feedback so that we are able to refine these sections for clarity and completeness.

Meeting Summary:
In our meeting with Dr. Hall, we discussed the progress on Chapter 3, covering the project budget, timeline, and key concerns such as health and safety, environmental impact, and ethics. We also reviewed Chapter 4, summarizing the project and exploring ideas for future expansions. Dr. Hall provided feedback to refine these sections and ensure we are on track to have a comprehensive final report. Parts have been ordered to begin designing the CAD for the main chassis and we discussed who will be in charge of what CAD models to present in our next meeting.

Meeting Summary:

 

In our meeting with Dr. Hall, we discussed our conversations with Dr. Britt regarding obtaining Martian soil for testing and the possibility of volunteering for the Lunar Robotics Competition in the future. We also reviewed plans to test our project in the 10x10 Martian Sandbox at the UCF Exolith Lab, ensuring that we would be able to test it during our design phase next semester. Additionally, we discussed our reasons for  resizing the main frame CAD model and reviewed the refined block diagrams.

Meeting Summary:

This week’s meeting was brief due to technical issues. However, we were able to confirm that we successfully established initial contact with Parks Easter, thanks to an introduction by Dr. Britt. At this stage, we have not yet submitted any applications for Lunabotics, as we had only just received his information. The rest of the meeting focused on assigning deliverables and ensuring continued progress on the main components of the project.

We agreed to stay in touch during the break for any updates or questions that may arise.

Meeting Summary:

This week, we established communication with Parks Easter and both registered as volunteers for the Lunabotics competition. On the technical side, we continued developing the CAD model. Pedro is nearing completion of the drive system for the rocker-bogie mechanism, while Mark is almost done modeling the robotic arm. We also began discussing the brush mechanism for the cleaning system, and Mark has already started designing motor brackets for mounting the motors. The report is close to being finalized, with only a few remaining details left to address.

This weeks meeting with Dr. Hall, we reviewed our revised flowcharts, presentation, and CAD model, discussing refinements to improve clarity and effectiveness. Dr. Hall emphasized the importance of finalizing our report and website by the next meeting so we can shift focus entirely to the presentation. Additionally, she advised us to continue printing chassis parts to ensure the assembly is ready in time for the presentation.
